Observance of the week is coordinated with a significant date for U.S. infrastructure—President Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 (National Interstate & Defense Highways Act) on June 29, 1956.

This dedicated week underscores the critical role of concrete pavement in delivering long-lasting, sustainable and high-performing roadways for communities. It offers the opportunity to inform stakeholders and the public about ongoing investments in infrastructure and the proven benefits provided by concrete roadways. With unmatched service life and resilience, concrete pavement minimizes maintenance demands, improves safety and supports fiscal responsibility.
